Settled in for a year! This is still a little light/mid tones based for my liking but I'm confident it will stand the test of time on this low sun-exposure area. I'm always trying to bring more black and more negative space to my pieces. My tendency is to get lost in the details and put in "accurate" values and it is a constant push for me to use more black, more dark and more open space! The point I'm making is that while I am super proud of this soft realistic piece, I would make it very different if I were tattooing it today. Always learning, always pushing for the next step to make tomorrow's tattoo simpler, cleaner and more resilient to the test of time!

Snow day for @ermcadam ! It's always a pleasure to tattoo subjects I'm passionate about! That said, winter scenes like this can be tricky to find the right balance of light and dark. Every good tattoo needs plenty of black to create contrast that will last through the years. Here we used some dark trees and then built large dark edges to separate the different portions of the tattoo.

Seriously though I can only take on so many cover ups. I get a lot of requests and lots of people try to convince me by saying "I'll wait as long as I need to". The truth is I just need to pass on most cover up projects. Any project that has a serious cover up in it doesn't show off an artists work as well and as clearly as if it was fresh skin. The reality of the industry is that your tattoo artist needs to show off their best work to keep their clientèle interested and fired up. On top of that, cover ups take more planning, design time and effort. This is my long winded way of saying sorry I can't take on your cover up project.

In the meantime what to do if you can't find the right artist for that cover up? GET SOMETHING NEW THAT YOU'LL LOVE FOREVER! Some people laugh, but this is my real heartfelt recommendation. Thanks for reading, have a great one!

If the piece you're trying to cover up is really big and awkward a fee laser sessions can give the artist more freedom in creating the cover up! What's in it for you? A better tattoo! The less your artist needs to change the design and the process to cover the old work the more they can focus on making your new piece come to life!

Assassins Creed Part II! Another busy day with Brady building this leg sleeve! Keep bringing the video game and movie portraits this way...

Can you see some dark spots in the red? When you tattoo color and then work on dark areas around it with black inks you will sometimes see this. I have heard many tattooers talk about how they will avoid doing this at all costs because they are afraid their bright colors will now heal with dark spots. I have never personally witnessed this but I do make sure I wait until the color portions have had 10-20 mins to settle and rest before using black ink near them. So while it may make your fresh photo look a little less bright in the color areas these will heal with no black ink in them whatsoever. I assure clients and fellow tattoo artists it is much harder to get ink into the skin than simply wiping the ink over a patch of broken skin. Hope you enjoyed my semi-informative rant of the day!
